Shueisha, the predecessor to Dai Nippon Printing, was established as the first true printing company in Japan in 1876. From there the company progressed, changing its name to Dai Nippon Printing after merging with Nisshin Printing in 1935.

In the 1950’s, Dai Nippon Printing focused on growth and moved to printing materials necessary for everyday life such as decorative materials, packaging, electronic devices, and data security. In 2001, Dai Nippon Printing celebrated 125 years in the printing business and introduced their vision for the 21st century: “P&I Solutions DNP.”

DNP America is a subsidiary company of Dai Nippon Printing and was established in July of 1974. With offices in New York, Los Angeles, and Silicon Valley, DNP America focuses its operations in graphic printing, decorative materials, packaging, card printers and holograms, as well as electronic devices to the North and South American markets.

1876 Shueisha, predecessor to Dai Nippon Printing, established.
1935 Corporate name changed to Dai Nippon Printing after Shueisha merges with Nisshin Printing.
1951 Decorative Materials operations start: Printing Technology developed for decorative sheets with wood grain.
1951 DNP's first expansion into a new field with the Osaki plant specializing in Paper Packaging.
1957 Oji Plant founded, specializing in flexible packaging.
1959 Successful development of prototypes of photomasks for semiconductors.
1961 Began printing plastic containers.
1962 Direct color printing on steel plates (ELLIO sheets) developed.
1965 Technique for gravure printing on cloth developed.
1967 Began printing plastic cards.
1967 Yokohama Plant established, specializing in paper containers.
1968 New York office established.
1971 Began printing security holograms.
1973 DNP sales distinguished the firm as the world’s largest comprehensive printing company.
1973 Sayama and Tsuruse Plants established, specializing in paper cartons and decorative material printing, respectively.
1974 DNP America established.
1974 Began printing magnetic cards.
1976 Development of aseptic portion packages.
1978 "Curlfit" technology developed for printing on curved surfaces.
1978 Large 3D holograms developed.
1980 Packaging Research Laboratory and Decorative Interiors Research Lab established.
1982 Micro Products Research Laboratory established.
1982 Began printing PET bottles.
1983 Smart Card developed.
1986 Transparent holograms developed.
1992 DNP Group Corporate Pledge estatblished.
1993 Mihara Plant established in Hiroshima, specializing in electronic components.
1994 Development of aseptic filling system for PET bottles.
1997 Began use of soy-oil ink for graphic printing.
1999 Developed Environmentally Friendly decorative papers.
1999 Ushiku Plant established in Ibaraki, specializing in various plastic cards.
2001 Began MEMS printing in Electronic Device Operations.
2001 DNP celebrated 125 years in the printing business and introduced “P&I Solutions DNP” as their vision for the 21st century.
2002 DNP Photomask Europe S.p.A. established in Italy for production of photomasks.
2005 DNP received the Minister of the Environment Prize in th 14th Global Environment Awards.
2006 Established the DNP Lifestyle Materials Marketing Co., Ltd. to expand the decorative interiors business.
2006 DNP acquired the photo division of Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc.
2006 130th Anniversary of DNP.
